Leh to Nubra Valley:

Nubra Valley, a truly enchanting destination, boasts majestic mountains, dazzling lakes, and incomparable landmarks. The distance from Leh to Nubra Valley by road spans 159 kilometers, and the journey takes approximately four hours and forty minutes. Keep in mind that an Inner Line Permit is mandatory to visit Nubra Valley, obtainable either in person from Leh’s DM office or conveniently through the online platform. For foreign travelers, a Protected Area permit is required, which can only be obtained through a registered travel agent. You’ll find three routes to Nubra Valley from Leh: the Khardung La road, Wari La, and Agham Shyok road.

Khardung La road:

It is the most popular, easiest, and quickest route, favored by more than 90% of tourists visiting Nubra Valley. Travelers take the road from Leh towards Khardung La, passing through the village of Khardung and reaching Khalsar before beholding the charismatic view of Nubra Valley. This route covers a total distance of 350 to 450 kilometers, including the round trip from Nubra Valley back to Leh.

Wari La route:

It is less commonly used to reach Nubra Valley. It appeals to those who wish to proceed straight from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso without returning to Leh. However, this path entails a longer journey and increased travel duration, making it a choice mainly for adventurous souls who seek the challenge of driving through more difficult terrain.

Agham Shyok road:

The trail along the Agham Shyok road is the most demanding route to Nubra Valley. It lacks proper roads, filled with rough rocks and broken pathways, making it less accessible for travel. However, if avoiding a return to Leh is a priority, this route can be taken, as it offers a travel time of just six hours.

In conclusion, Nubra Valley beckons with its magical allure, and regardless of the chosen route, the journey promises unforgettable experiences amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh. So, embark on this adventure, and let the wonders of Nubra Valley captivate your soul.

Things not to miss in Leh Ladakh Trip:

  • Indulge in the delightful flavors of Thukpa, a traditional Ladakhi delicacy, served at The Tibetan Kitchen restaurant.
