Day 1 :
: ARRIVE IN PARO AIRPORT AND TRANSFER TO THIMPHU
Upon landing at Paro Airport (2200 meters), complete your immigration and baggage processes. Our representative will meet you and then drive you to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. Along the way, stop at Chuzom, where the Thimphu and Paro rivers converge. This scenic spot features three distinct styles of stupas: Tibetan, Nepalese, and Bhutanese. Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into your hotel. Spend your evening exploring the Main Street and market area of Thimphu. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2 :
: THIMPHU
In the morning, visit the handmade paper mill and the School of Arts and Crafts (closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays), where students learn 13 traditional Bhutanese arts. Next, explore the Simply Bhutan Museum and enjoy an archery experience on-site. Continue with a drive past the Memorial Chorten, dedicated to the 3rd King. Visit the Buddha Viewpoint, Changangkha Lhakhang (the oldest temple in the valley), the enclosure housing the national animal, the Takin, and the Zilukha Nunnery. Return to your hotel in Thimphu for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3 :
: THIMPHU-PUNAKHA (75 km, 3 hrs approx)
Today’s drive takes you through Dochula Pass (3100 meters), one of the most scenic passes in Bhutan. The pass is marked by 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens, built by the Queen Mother in 2003, making it a significant site. Weather permitting, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of Bhutan’s highest peaks stretching nearly 180 degrees. After a photo stop, continue your journey to the warm valley of Punakha. Upon arrival, check into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit the stunning Punakha Dzong, which features the most elaborate temple in the country and showcases Bhutanese arts and crafts. Later, take an excursion to Chimi Lhakhang, known as the Temple of Fertility. The temple is located on a hillock and requires a 1.5-hour walk through paddy fields and villages, offering a glimpse into the local lifestyle. Return to your hotel in Punakha for an overnight stay.
Day 4 :
: PUNAKHA – PARO (125 kms, 4hr drive)
After breakfast, drive back to Paro, descending from Dochula Pass and following the scenic Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu river valleys. Cross through Paro Town towards the north end of the valley. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, a site of profound tantric teachings that now serves as a school for the Dzongkha language. Upon arriving in Paro and checking into your hotel, head to Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower and now housing the National Museum. The museum's extensive collection features antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons, armor, household items, and a rich array of natural and historic artifacts. Next, walk down the trail to Rinpung Dzong, meaning "fortress of the heap of jewels," known for its fascinating history. Explore the wooden galleries of the inner courtyard, adorned with exquisite wall paintings depicting Buddhist lore, including the four friends, the old man of long life, the wheel of life, scenes from Milarepa’s life, Mount Sumeru, and other cosmic Mandalas. Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.
Day 5 :
: PARO
After breakfast, embark on a hike to Taktshang Monastery, also known as the "Tiger’s Nest," which is a renowned Bhutanese monastery perched 900 meters above the Paro valley floor. This iconic site is believed to be where Guru Rinpoche arrived on the back of a tigress and meditated, giving it its legendary name. The trek takes approximately 5 hours. In the afternoon, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a historic fortress in ruins where Bhutanese warriors once battled Tibetan invaders. From the approach road, enjoy spectacular views of the snow-capped Chomolhari, known as the "mountain of the goddess." On the way, visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, marking the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan. Conclude the day with an exploratory walk around Paro's Main Street and market area. Return to your hotel in Paro for the night.
Day 6 :
: DEPARTURE
After early breakfast at the hotel, drive to the airport for flight to your onward destination. Our representative will help you with exit formalities and then bid you farewell.
